Harris County Precinct 4 Deputy Constable Ted Dahlin is reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital at this time with a gunshot to the arm.
Dahlin was on a traffic stop near Cypress Rosehill and FM 2920 when he was shot. He was able to return fire striking the suspect in the head. At first it was thought by officers on the scene the suspect was dead but EMS determined he was not and he was flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston in critical condition.
Additional details will be released at a 8 p.m. press conference. Starting in a few minutes.
Ted Dahlin made national news back in 2009 when he and his K-9 partner Blek were searching a wooded area in north Harris County for a burglary suspect. Dahlin turned Blek loose to find the suspect but he did not return and did not respond to Dahlin’s voice commands. Thinking it was helicopter noise overhead officers entered the woods looking for him. Before Dahlin made it all the way in other officers stopped him.
Dahlin’s partner, Blek, who had turned five just a few weeks before had been strangled and killed by the suspect. They had been partners just over three years.
The suspect, 17-year-old Cornelious Harrell choked Blek as the dog cornered his brother. There were five suspects involved in the burglary that day.
