Storms hit Montgomery County starting close to 5 pm with multiple lightning strikes. One large home in the Dobbin Community was fully involved when fire units arrived on the scene on Smith Road near North Mt. Mirah in deep northwest Montgomery County. Firefighters finally were ordered out of the structure and a second alarm was called for after extensive winds started fanning the flames putting firefighters up against a wall of fire. Second alarm trucks were delayed arriving as visibility was almost nothing with the intense rain. The last crew finally left after 3 am. The home was a total; loss. In the Grangerland area, trees were toppled such as the one that closed Old Houston Road, the main thoroughfare between FM 1314 and FM 1485. Crews had at least 4 locations to remove trees. Montgomery County Precinct 4 Commissioners Office dispatched crews to clear the roadways. The next few days will be spent picking up down trees in the right of way.
