MULTI AGENCY MANHUNT EAST OF CONROE
CONROE- Numerous law enforcement agencies spent Wednesday afternoon engaged in an intensive manhunt in the area of FM 3083 and SH 105 East, but the fugitive managed to escape.

Benjamin “Benny” Burton, 26, of Conroe has three active warrants for first-degree felony delivery of a controlled substance, according to Lt. Philip Cash, a supervising officer of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit. Some of Burton’s associates have been arrested, but he has successfully eluded capture.
Cash said family members told investigators Burton left the state, but afterward, he was seen still in the Conroe area.

The SIU was conducting surveillance around 3:30 p.m. when a detective saw someone he believed to be Burton in a vehicle with another man and approached the pair. The passenger complied with the detective’s instructions, Cash said but Burton fled into the woods. His passenger initially insisted to police that the fleeing man was not Burton. The passenger was later charged with making a false report to a police officer, Cash said.

The SIU called for assistance with a perimeter, which was answered by the Pct. 2 Constable’s Office, Conroe Police Department, and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office District 1.

MCSO SWAT, led by Captain Bruce Zenor, also responded. Zenor said his men were tracking Burton, but they lost the trail. The US Drug Enforcement Administration and Texas Department of Public Safety joined the search by air, as well. Eventually, as darkness fell, the search was called off.

Police records show Burton has a laundry list of prior offenses including DWI, escape from custody, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, false drug test, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and criminal trespass.

On the social networking website, MySpace.com, Benjamin Burton’s alias is “Benny Boosta.” He lists himself as a 2000 Conroe High School graduate and writes that his mother is his “hero.” Burton has also posted a quote on the page that states, “The path to hell is paved with good intentions.”

While it is clear Burton’s intentions on Wednesday were to evade arrest, the path he took remains unknown to police.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 760-5871.
Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Montgomery County Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-392-(STOP)7867. Tips may be submitted online by visiting www.montgomerycountycrimestoppers.org.

CAR CRASHES INTO RIVER PLANTATION FIRE STATION
CONROE – Fire departments respond to various disasters in their areas, but River Plantation Fire Department station 171, was the scene of a catastrophe on Wednesday morning.
Montgomery County Pct. 2 Constable Gene Deforest said around 7:45 a.m., a greenskeeper for the River Plantation Golf Course was and sitting inside his vehicle, which was stopped in front of the fire station when he decided to back up. Unfortunately, the man failed to notice the vehicle was in “drive” instead of “reverse” and he crashed through the front of the station. Deforest said the incident occurred on private property, so no citation was issued.
Asst. Chief Doug Zepeda of the River Plantation Fire Department said the two front bay doors were damaged, along with structural support. Two apparatus inside the station, an engine, and a rescue truck, received what appeared to be only cosmetic damage. Both doors had to come off and special equipment was required to jack up the roof so the trucks could be removed.

Station 172 is RP’s main fire station and is manned 24-hours a day. Station 171, the damaged station, is where additional trucks are kept, but no crew is standing by on location. Therefore, although Station 171 will not be in use for a while as it undergoes repairs, Zepeda said it will not affect service or response time to RP area residents in any way.

DOG SHOT, TIED IN TRASH BAG AND TIED TO A FENCE RESCUED

UPDATE: JANUARY 6, 2020-BUCK IS STILL DOING WELL AND BEING CARED FOR BY TAMI

A dog has been found sealed up in a contractor’s garbage bag after being shot with a shotgun in the face and left to die.

A good Samaritan, Tami Augustyn, was notified by a friend that a dog had been tied up in a garbage bag and left to die along Bulldog Lane in Conroe, Texas. Tami immediately picked up the severely wounded dog and took him to Animal Emergency Clinic in Conroe, Texas where the dog is being evaluated and stabilized until they close on Monday, January 7th at 8 am in which he will be transported to another vet. Under initial evaluation, the dog has been shot in the face, including in both eyes and inside his mouth, with birdshot fragments. This has left the dog either temporarily or permanently blind and will require a specialist to evaluate his eyes. The dog also needs x-rays of his hind legs to determine why he can’t walk.

The dog is affectionately being referred to as “Buck” after Buckshot. A Facebook page “Buck Needs Bucks for his Buckshot Injuries” has been created to follow his prognosis and documenting pictures of his wounds and medical bills. https://www.facebook.com/Buckneedsbucks

Medical costs are increasing rapidly to save this dog (currently estimated at over $3,000) and Tami is asking people to donate by either call Animal Emergency Clinic at 936.539.3800 or via Paypal to TamiAugustyn@hotmail.com.

Montgomery County Precinct 4 and Precinct 5 Livestock Officers were called by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office this weekend regarding several starving horses on FM 2854 west of Conroe. Deputy Don Smith, Livestock Officer with responder to the scene to meet with two Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies who had been called to check the welfare of the animals. After seeing the conditions they contacted constables.

One horse was found on the property with no source of water or food. A feed room in a small makeshift barn contained less than 3 pounds of food. Next to that feed room were two stalls that were locked. In each stall was a dead horse. Smith said with the cold weather both could have been deceased at least a week.

Smith seized the one horse that was still alive but over one hundred pounds underweight.

There was also a dog on the site. Montgomery County Animal Control was contacted to respond to check the dog’s welfare.

After speaking with the owner on the phone Smith was able to get permission to remove the horse from the property. A hearing will still need to be conducted to turn the horse over to the SPCA.

The owner of the horses admitted to Smith he had been down on his luck and without a job hasn’t been able to afford the animals.

Charges of cruelty to animals will be filed on the owner Varrick Johnson of Montgomery.

MOTHER SAVES BABY FROM BURNING HOME
About 11:20 pm a Pinehurst resident was visiting with neighbors when she started to smell smoke in the house located at 12723 Pinecrest in the Pinedale Mobile Home Community. She ran to the back room where her 2-year-old child was asleep on the bed. As she got to the door she heard the child screaming and then realized what appeared to be an electrical outlet on the side of the bed on fire. She immediately got the child out and alerted a neighbor to the fire. With fire en-route, the neighbor used at least 2 fire extinguishers to partially knock down the fire in the bedroom. Shortly after Magnolia and Tomball firefighters arrived on the scene. MCHD was en route and Northwest EMS also arrived at the scene. The 2-year-old was transported to Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center with first and second-degree burns to 30% of his body but was in stable condition. Firefighters credit the mother for her rapid response saving her child and closing the bedroom door, sealing the fire off the remainder of the home. When fire crews arrived they were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office will be investigating.
