ONE DEAD AFTER CAR GOES INTO POND

Just after 4 a.m. Wednesdaym the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office took a call from a citizen who spotted a vehicle in the pond in the River Plantation Subdivision in Conroe.

The pond is on the River Plantation Country Club’s golf course and is located at River Plantation and Stonewall Jackson. The caller said there was a man in the vehicle who appeared to be alright, but was unable to get out of the vehicle. Montgomery County Hospital District and Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol responded to the scene along with Central Montgomery County Fire Department.

Conroe Fire Department Engine 4 crew members also responded and rescued the 68-year-old victim from the vehicle, in the cold almost frigid water, and moved him to the shore. At that point, the victim was conscious and talking with the crews. Sadly, on the way to the hospital, the victim went into cardiac arrest.  Medics were unable to revive him. The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.

DPS is continuing the investigation. Until next of kin are notified, a name will not be released.

According to DPS officials, the investigation is not leading them to conclude the car winding up in the water was the result of the victim’s driving or reaction to another vehicle. Insead, they believe it was the result of a medical condition.

However, they said they are awaiting results of an autopsy to make a final determination.
