OVERNIGHT STRUCTURE FIRE DESTROYS MOTORHOME AND OTHER EQUIPMENT

Just before 1 a.m. Caney Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a reported RV fire with it spreading to a structure in the 13600 block of Tommy Smith, near Grangerland. The first unit on the scene immediately called for a full box alarm with a large barn fully involved in fire. East Montgomery County and North Montgomery County Fire Departments were dispatched to assist. The structure housed a large recreational vehicle, a car, tractor, lawnmowers and all-terrain vehicles. According to the owner, they were both asleep when the phone began to ring. They were not able to get to it fast enough but that’s when they spotted the flames outside of their window. When the owner called 911 propane cans had started exploding and the vinyl siding on his home began to melt. Wires on an electrical transformer next to the building began to arc and fall. When the first pumper arrived, firefighters were forced to fight the blaze from the outside. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigation. There were no injuries.
