Pajamas used to raise money for fire victims

Kingwood – Some Creekwood Middle School students lost everything when fire gutted their house late Sunday night, then rekindled hours later, leaving the family with virtually nothing, but they have since received a priceless gift from the children’s classmates.

The fire began around 11 p.m. Sunday night and the Houston Fire Department responded and spent hours extinguishing the blaze. After the fire crews were gone the family went back to their house which already had extensive damage, and a short time later the unthinkable happened.
Around 5:30 a.m., the fire rekindled and again became very intense. Between the fire, smoke and water damage, almost nothing was left.

On Monday, the Creekwood Middle School staff began devising a plan to help. They came up with a way to help and to make it fun for all of the school’s students. They announced that students would be allowed to wear their pajamas to class the following day, for a $1 donation.

Their goal was to raise $1,000, but by noon the amount raised was already $11,500 and counting. Some parents became competitive and were making matching donations.

The event was a huge success.
