Parents – Have you checked the Registry lately?

As of Sunday morning, August 11, 2024, Montgomery County, Texas has 1,039 residents who are registered sex offenders.

The Texas Department of Public Safety maintains the Texas Sex Offender Registry, which is public information, searchable by offender name, anyone’s address, zip code, institute of higher education, or county. The registry lists name, address, and conviction details, as well as a current photo, height, weight, and shoe size of everyone required to register as a sex offender in the state of Texas.

This information is important for everyone, but especially those who have children who walk to and from school, or a bus stop. It’s also important for parents to remain aware of potential risks when allowing children to attend parties or sleepovers, and with the upcoming Halloween “trick or treat” tradition of children going door to door in costumes within their neighborhoods.

While weekly arrests prove many child predators haven’t been caught, more are convicted and given probation or paroled every day. The state of Texas now requires convicted sex offenders to remain registered for life (the requirement used to expire for some).

The search is fast and free of charge. It’s anonymous, meaning anyone searching the registry doesn’t have to create a username or provide any information to see if there are dangers in their area or any area. It provides multiple possibilities for searching and is available 24/7 to anyone, anywhere, with internet access.
