PORTER, TX — A vigilant resident in the Riverwalk neighborhood helped lead to the arrest of a burglary suspect on December 11, 2025, after reporting a suspicious person and vehicle at a home in the 22000 block of Jurua.
According to the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, the call came in around 11:30 a.m. A responding deputy arrived to find a suspicious backpack outside a window where the screen had been removed. The reporting resident also informed the deputy that a man had fled into the nearby woods moments earlier.
Hearing movement in the wooded area, the deputy requested additional units. Precinct 4 deputies quickly surrounded the area, deploying ground units, a drone, and a K9 team. A K9 unit from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist.
As the search continued, an Uber vehicle entered the area and picked up a man matching the suspect’s description. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and identified the passenger as 36-year-old Lawrence Simpson of Cypress, Texas. Authorities confirmed that Simpson matched the Texas identification found inside the abandoned backpack.
Simpson was arrested and charged with Felony Burglary of a Habitation and Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The Precinct 4 Constable’s Office expressed appreciation for the Sheriff’s Office assistance.
Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden praised the teamwork and community involvement, stating, “This was a great example of neighbors staying alert and our teams working quickly together. We appreciate the resident who called it in, and we’re thankful for the Sheriff’s Office partnership that helped bring this to a safe arrest.”
