On Saturday, June 22, 2024, at approximately 1:22AM, Harris County District 1 Patrol Deputies responded to a traffic hazard that later turned out to be an auto versus pedestrian motor vehicle crash in the 10200 block of State Highway 99, eastbound main lanes just east of SH 249. Upon arrival, the pedestrian, Darrell Thomas Jones (27 years of age) was confirmed by Emergency Medical Services ESD 11 medic 402 with no signs of life at 1:42 am. Darrell was walking from north to south and failed to yield the right of way to vehicles on the roadway. It is unknown who struck Darrell. Parts from the suspect vehicle were found at the scene. Deputies searched the area and were unable to locate the suspect vehicle. This crash remains under investigation by the Vehicular Crimes Division.
