Police say fake cop was local man

HOUSTON – A Grangerland man is in the Harris County Jail, charged with sexual assault and impersonating a police officer.

James Thomas Schell, 61 is accused of coaxing a woman into his pickup stating he was an undercover vice officer and she would be arrested if she did not comply. She told police Schell further stated that if she tried to run from him, she would face felony charges for attempting to evade arrest.

The alleged victim said the incident occurred on Sept. 30 and began in the 4000 block of Airline Drive in Houston. The woman said after she got into the truck with Schell he drove them to a motel in the 6900 block of Jensen Drive where he reportedly rented a room for two hours.

She claims that during that time, Schell forced her to perform oral sex and threatened her with physical violence if she refused. She said she complied, believing Schell was an officer. Afterward, she told police Schell drove her back to the spot where he approached her, then let her out of the truck and drove away.

Public Data shows Schell was convicted of armed robbery in 1973 and his parole was revoked in 1978. No other offenses are listed.
