At 3:30 a.m. this morning Porter and New Caney Fire Departments were dispatched to a mobile home fire in the area of Yancy Road. Yancy is directly across the railroad tracks from Porters main station and within minutes a hose was laid and the fire was extinguished.
The speed didn’t help this time. The mother of a young 10-year-old child perished in the fire. The child suffered some burned hair but no serious injuries. . At first it was thought there were two victims in the blaze but it was just the female.
Caney Creek Fire Department backed into Porters stations to assist in covering the district.
Assistant Fire Marshal Scott Burlin is enroute to the scene to investigate. It is undetermined if smoke detectors were in the house.
PEOPLE PLEASE FOR YOUR SAFETY AND YOUR CHILDS , INSTALL SMOKE DETECTORS. IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD THEM CALL OR GO BY YOUR CLOSEST FIRE STATION AND THEY WILL INSTALL THEM FOR YOU. A MOBILE HOME CAN BURN TO THE GROUND IN 7 MINUTES. YOU NEED EVERY SECOND OF WARNING. ALSO ONCE YOU ARE OUT DO NOT GO BACK IN FOR ANY REASON. PEOPLE DON’T REALIZE THE HOT GASES EMITTED FROM A FIRE CAN KILL YOU WITH ONE BREATH.
