Just after 5:30 Thursday evening smoke billowed into the sky in the Porter area. Fire trucks raced down Needham Road to try to stop it before it got out of hand. With the help of the Texas Forest Service and New Caney Fire Department the cut the fire off and limited the could be wildfire to just 9 acres. The fire which is of suspicious nature of origin was located at the end of Needham Road and alongside the bone dry retention pond. When crews arrived they were met with heavy fire conditions and spreading quickly.
The Texas Forest Service has completely surrounded the area with a bulldozer. Some of the fire will be allowed to burn itself out. Until it does the smell of smoke will linger in the area.
