Early Saturday morning an underground utility cable that supplies electric to the Porter Wal-mart shorted out and burning through the conduit. Wal-mart closed the store and contacted corporate officials for a generator.
As of 8p.m. Saturday evening a generator has yet to arrive. With all the food items thawing they will have to dispose of it after power is restored and restock the freezer and refrigerated sections of the store.
They hope to be open in minimal operation by 6a.m. Sunday.
Currently the Kroger parking lot next to Wal-mart is almost filled to capacity with grocery shoppers.
There have been several near accidents in the unlit parking lot. as curious shoppers drive through.
A generator has just arrived at 9:00pm but will take several hours to connect.
