From the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office
A “911” emergency call to the Liberty County Sheriff’s dispatcher at approximately 1:01 p.m. this afternoon sent Deputy Ruben Arellano to #502 CR 417 in South Liberty County regarding two deceased persons found in the home at that location. According to initial reports, a son of the couple had been trying to contact his parents but was unable to do so. When he arrived at their home, the door was found to be unlocked and when he entered he found his mother deceased on the floor from an apparent gunshot wound and his father a few feet away also deceased from a gunshot wound with a hand gun lying nearby.
In the very early stage of this investigation, Lead Investigator Sgt. Kenny Dagle confirmed that the wife, who is thought to be approximately 73 years old, had recently suffered a stroke and a caretaker has been coming by and attending to her needs from time to time. Her husband, thought to be 75 years old, lived at their residence with his wife.
Sgt. Dagle said that Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Judge Larry Wilburn responded to the scene and ordered an autopsy. According to Sgt. Dagle, the identity of the deceased couple is being withheld pending notification of other family members. The investigation is continuing and names will be released as soon as it is appropriate to family members who have yet to be notified.
