About 3 am last Sunday morning Mahab Patola, Jason as all his friends and customers know him at the AR Grocery on Community Drive in New Caney was involved in a deadly crash. He was returning home with his wife and three boys. They were northbound on US 59. As they approached I-610 a white KIA Optima which was driving southbound in the northbound lanes struck Jason and his family head-on. The KIA burst into flames, the 20-year-old female perished. Jason tried to free his family as two other vehicles struck Jason’s Hyundai G80 from the rear. Jasons 2-year-old son was killed instantly. His 6-year-old was critically injured, his wife critically injured and his 10-year-old son critically injured. They were all transported to Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center. Jason was in a coma but is now slowly recovering, He was able to walk thirty feet on Wednesday. His wife is still critical with broken legs, arm, shoulder, pelvis. His 6-year-old was released from the hospital Wednesday with a broken leg. He will stay with Jason’s father. Jasons oldest son remains in very critical condition. Wednesday night friends and Jasons customers came together for a prayer vigil. By the time everyone left there wasn’t a dry eye. Jason was able to Facetime with the over 100 attendees. He asked everyone to pray for his son. He knew almost everyone that wished him a speedy recovery by name by just hearing their voice without actually seeing them, He begged everyone to not drink and drive and broke down as he told everyone that is what killed his son and put his family in the hospital. Jason’s father, who owns Martin Food Store on East Martin in Porter will run AR Grocery for Jason until he returns. Jasons father emphasized that he does not want any fundraisers, GOFUNDME, etc. He said Jason has family and insurance. Allen Taylor, with the Taylor Organization, whose group also attended tonight suggested since they didn’t want donations, buy more than what you need from Jason’s Store.
