PUBLIC INVITED TO NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL CEREMONY

Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader in association with Pastor Mike Chadwick’s Dayton First Baptist Church located at 202 E. Houston St. in Dayton, Texas will be hosting the annual “National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial” service on Thursday, May 18 at 7:pm and they are cordially inviting the general public to attend and help extend honor and respect to all Texas Peace Officers who have been killed in the line of duty during the past year of 2016. Liberty County Deputies that have been killed in the line of duty over the past several years and their families will also be honored as well as a Dayton Night Watchman/Officer killed in the line of duty in 1950. The Master of Ceremony for this occasion will be former District Attorney and present Liberty City Judge Mike Little who is a very popular and well known MC. The Guest Speaker will be Texas Ranger Brandon Bess and Ms. Laurie Elliott will sing the National Anthem while County Judge Jay Knight will read a Proclamation in honor of the event.

President John F. Kennedy proclaimed the week of May 15 as Peace Officers Memoria Day in 1963 in recognition of the service given by the men and women who, night and day, protect us through enforcement of our laws and have lost their lives in doing so. Therefore, it is recognized nationwide to honor those Peace Officers who have made the supreme sacrifice. Last year in 2016 we recognized eighteen Officers who lost their lives in 2015. This year we will recognize twenty-one Officers and five police K-9’s who were killed in the line of duty thus reaching their “end of watch” in service of their respective communities during 2016. Photos of the Officers and the K-9’s will be shown on the church screen along with their agency and “end of watch” date. An Officer will rise from the audience, walk to the front of the church and represent one of the fallen Officers and as each name is called out, a bell will ring in their honor.

Family members of those local Peace Officers killed will be seated in a special section and be honored guest and recognized at the memorial service. The ceremony promises to be quite emotional and moving with an Honor Guard flag ceremony, a 21 gun salute, “taps” and a bag pipe player to conclude the services. Again, the Sheriff’s Office and Dayton First Baptist Church extends a warm welcome to the public and to all law enforcement agencies and First Responders to attend the Memorial service to help honor those Officers who gave their lives in the service to their communities,
