rain keeps emergency workers busy

Saturdays rain brought some relief to the area but it also brought slick streets and allowed people to think with the few drops of rain the Burn Ban was no longer in force. As people started getting on the streets the accidents started coming in.  A head on crash in River Plantation. As DPS was enroute to a crash at North Walker Road and SH 105 the trooper ran up on another accident which could have been much more serious in front of the Security Flea Market. A van lost control spinning and was struck by a pickup which pushed it into the flea market area dangerously close to booths and shoppers. Three people from the van were transported, one in serious condition.

Rose Road in the Willis area is known for it’s curves but those curves become dangerously slick when it rains. A woman and her small child rolled her Jeep Liberty just three-fourths of a mile from FM 1484. The vehicle on it’s side mom and child were uninjured.

Just moments after that crash a Dodge pickup lost control in another curve just south of FM 1097. The male female driver and male passenger were uninjured. The vehicle flipped and hit a fence.

On Interstate 45 near the county line another crash was responded to by fire and EMS.

Although none were fatalities, and only one being quite serious a more serious crash happened just south of the county line. A Ford F-250 was southbound on Interstate 45 when traffic slowed suddenly. Not able to stop in time he hit the Dodge truck in front of him. The body damage to both vehicles were very minimal. However, the body damage to his girlfriend was not so minimal. The unidentified 22-year-old female who was wearing a seatbelt had her feet resting on the dashboard. The impact set of the airbag shooting her leg up and back. The other foot and leg through the windshield which almost severed the foot. One medic described it as how someone could take a Barbie doll and push her legs almost completely behind her. The female suffered extensive, legs, hip and pelvic injuries  with as the medic said were almost crushed. Both femurs were broken midshaft. She was transported to Houston in critical condition.
