RECKLESS DRIVER ALMOST HITS SEVERAL VEHICLES BEFORE HITTING PATROL CAR AND FLEEING AGAIN

On May 6, 2017 a Liberty County Sheriff’s Office deputy and his partner were dispatched to the area of FM-2518 and S.H. 105 in reference to a reckless vehicle. The report advised that a vehicle would drive in the oncoming lane causing vehicles to swerve off the road to avoid a crash. When the deputies approached the suspect on S.H. 105 the vehicle swerved in their lane of traffic and they had to take evasive action.

The deputies attempted a traffic stop and the suspect vehicle failed to yield. A pursuit took place and the suspect turned right on SH 321 travelling toward the City of Cleveland. Liberty County dispatch notified Cleveland dispatch of the pursuit. As the pursuit continued the suspect vehicle continued to drive recklessly and almost struck several vehicles as he was attempting to flee.

As the suspect vehicle entered the City of Cleveland another LCSO deputy and several City of Cleveland Police Officers joined in assisting with the pursuit. The suspect almost crashed in front of Cleveland High School but the oncoming driver managed to avoid the crash. The Deputies and Officers began trying to clear the roadway, to protect the citizens, as the suspect vehicle continued to flee dangerously through the City. The suspect struck a Cleveland Police Department patrol vehicle in the rear and was forced to turn on a dead end street. The suspect crashed in a tree line and hit a chain link fence. The driver then exited his vehicle and approached the deputies in an aggressive manner. He attempted to resist arrest but was taken in custody by the Liberty County Deputies and Cleveland Police Department Officers.

The driver was identified as Arthur James Aucion, DOB: 09/15/1974.
