HUMBLE, TX– A late-night traffic stop by a patrol officer with the Night Shift A Team turned into a major drug seizure after a driver caught speeding was allegedly found in possession of cocaine.
The incident occurred when the officer saw a vehicle traveling at approximately 90 MPH in a 65 MPH zone, driving erratically and posing a danger to others on the road. The officer initiated a traffic stop, and the situation quickly escalated.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the driver did not possess a valid driver’s license and had no proof of insurance. A further search of the vehicle revealed a significant quantity of cocaine, leading officers to believe the narcotics were intended for distribution.
The driver was immediately taken into custody and now faces felony charges for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
Authorities used the arrest to highlight the dangers of reckless driving—and how such behavior often leads to broader criminal discoveries.
“If you’re feeling guilty about the drugs in your car, driving recklessly is a good way to get our attention,” the department stated.
Humberto Ryan Lopez, 39, is charged with Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1.
The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to determine the source and destination of the narcotics.
