RECORD DWI ARRESTS FOR ONE DAY

The New Year started not even three weeks ago and it was appearing the DWI arrests finally slowed. It looked like people were getting the message don’t drink and drive.

That all went down the tube this Sunday as law enforcement from several agencies spent many hours not on the street but having to book the nineteen dwi offenders into the jail.

This by far has been the most DWI arrests for a 24-hour period this year.

We are currently working on the update and will be posting it soon.

Many have said most arrests for DWI have low bonds and they are right back out on the street. For a first time DWI in Montgomery County the bond is $600. Many feel, including MCPR that this is too low.

A bond is just like a promise to appear, a guarantee that you will be in court. That doesn’t always work. Looking at numbers over the past several years many of these end up in warrants and failure to appear. They then take their chances on not being stopped again for anything and being arrested for that warrant.

Some of the bonds are set much higher on multiple offenders which those , going through a bonding company usually have a better chance to appear as stipulations are put on that bond and bonding companies remind their clients under bond of court dates and try to keep up with their current status.
