RED LIGHT RUNNER SLAMMED BY FED EX 18 WHEELER

About 10 pm Friday night a driver was northbound on Valley Ranch when he ran the red light at the SH 99 westbound feeder. A Federal Express 18-wheeler traveling at the posted speed had no time to even apply his brakes and slammed into the passenger side of the vehicle. An 11-year-old child was in that seat and had his legs trapped. His father was transported to Kingwood Hospital with a punctured lung, fractured pelvis, and a head injury. The child was transported to Kingwood in critical condition with a head injury. The child was transferred to Texas Children’s. The fully loaded 18-wheeler pulling two trailers ran off the road and almost into the retention pond. Saddle Creek Towing spent until 3 am to recover the truck and trailers. They were having to use extreme caution so the sides would not rip open, dumping its contents. The driver, who was slightly injured, was transported but later released and returned to the scene. His injury came as the truck rolled, and he was in his seatbelt dangling from the driver’s seat. He was heading to the Cypress facility from Texarkana. The westbound feeder reopened at 4 am.
