Report of Trespasser Turns into a Theft in Progress and a Vehicle Pursuit

On June 10, 2019, at approximately 5:20 pm, the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Dispatch Center received a call regarding a ‘Trespassing in Progress” in the 2800 block of Hines Lake Road, near the New Boy Scout park. Information was that a grey truck and a white van were at the location of a ‘hunting camp’ and the reportee stated those vehicles should not be there. Two Sheriff’s Patrol Units responded. At about 5:43 pm, Sergeant Lareesa Koen, with partner Deputy Jennifer Ramirez, advised she had located a grey truck pulling a trailer with a 4 wheeler and a riding lawn mower on board. She attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the truck and the truck fled at a high rate of speed out towards FM 945 North. Due to dusty road conditions, Sergeant Koen lost sight of the truck. As Deputy David Brinkley was arriving, he observed the truck enter onto FM 945 North and initiated pursuit of the truck. In about the 6900 block, the truck exited into an open field/pasture, after crashing through fencing and gates, and attempted to elude Deputy Brinkley. The suspect, driving through several fields and into the woods continued to elude Deputy Brinkley. Deputy Brinkley continued to follow the suspect until he drove into the guard rail along FM 945 North at a creek. The suspect bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot into the woods. Other units arrived and established a perimeter around the area where the suspect was last seen. Deputy Bryan Pfluger, who had entered the woods at the creek, found the suspect hiding in the brush and was able to take the suspect into custody without incident. Upon contacting the complainant/owner of the property it was found the small trailer carrying the 4 wheeler and riding lawn mower was stolen from the ‘hunting camp’ in the 2800 block of Hines Lake Road. The stolen property was recovered and returned to the owners. Power tools and other items located in the truck are being held pending identification of the owners. The suspect is Jerry Allen Long, a white male-40 years of age from Cleveland Texas. He has been initially booked for Evading Arrest; however, felony theft and felony criminal mischief charges are pending.
