“Bianca”, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit narcotics detection K-9 who retired on September 10, 2012 has passed away. Bianca served Montgomery County for seven years. She came to Montgomery County in 2005 from Indiana and was teamed up with her long time partner and best friend, Deputy Tommy Thompson.
Bianca and Thompson worked side by side from 2005 until her retirement. During her career, Bianca was deployed 3800 times, and remained active much longer than most narcotics detection K-9’s. She was responsible for the seizure of thousands of pounds of marijuana, 37 kilos of cocaine, 62 pounds of methamphetamine, and thousands of narcotics in pill form.
When she retired, Montgomery County Commissioners Court honored her and County Judge Alan “Barb” Sadler asked Thompson how Bianca would spend her retirement. Thompson, who kept his longtime partner as a member of his family, said she would spend it watching television.
As a retirement gift, Bianca received a bright orange toy, one of the same that took her several years to destroy after receiving it as a gift upon joining the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Unfortunately, years worth of jumping up and down into vehicles, trunks, truck beds resulted in arthritis. Her symptoms reached a critical point Wednesday evening, when Bianca was unable to get up. She was taken to the vet on Thursday. With little to no treatment available for such issues, the vet suggested the most humane thing to do would be to put down.
It was a very somber day today among the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the many people whose hearts were touched by Bianca.

Bianca was loved. That’s the main thing. Loved enough to be able to be ‘put down’ and not forced to suffer with every medical procedure you can imagine to make money for drs. and hospitals. If we could only be as humane when human beings get past the point of having a quality life, we’d have a lot less suffering. God bless Bianca. Thank you for being compassionate with her and not in denial and making her suffer.
Love you, Bianca. Such a Good Girl.
RIP Bianca. Thank you for your service and you as well, Deputy Thompson. God bless.
