RFPD BUST ILLEGAL FOR IDENTITY THEFT

VAZQUEZ.JUAN2Saturday night, Roman Forest Police arrested an undocumented man for Driving While Intoxicated and discovered he was also allegedly committing Identity Theft.

Around 9 p.m., RFPD Sgt. Jasonis initiated a traffic stop on 20-year-old Juan Vazquez and determined he was intoxicated. Jasonis took Vazquez into custody. During the book process, the sergeant found an altered Texas Identification Card in Vazquez’s possession, along with two Social Security cards, an Oklahoma Identification Card and two other ID’s that did not belong to him.

Vazquez is charged with Driving While Intoxicated and third-degree felony Tampering with a Governmental Record.

According to RFPD Chief Stephen Carlisle, there is also an ICE Hold on Vazquez (pending AFIS verification), meaning he cannot be released on bond and faces deportation once his legal issues are cleared up.

Chief Carlisle had harsh words regarding the crime rarely seen in his city.

“Stealing someone’s identification or creating an ID other than your own is not
a victimless crime,” Chief Carlisle said. “This is a very serious crime
and will not be tolerated in Roman Forest.”

People from other countries who have illegally entered the United States often use Social Security cards and other identification that does not belong to them in order to have the appearance of working legally in the United States.

However, they also use them to run up doctor bills and obtain credit cards and other bills for which they will not be accountable if they are not caught. They can destroy their victim’s credit and cause problems that can take years to straighten out, if ever.
