AUSTIN,TX- On December 1, San Jacinto County First Assistant District Attorney Rob Freyer has formally filed his candidacy for Judge of the 258th Judicial District Court, a jurisdiction that spans nearly 2,500 square miles across San Jacinto, Polk and Trinity counties. The filing with the Texas Republican Party marks a significant step in Freyer’s bid for the bench, where he says he hopes to bring renewed accountability and public trust to the district court.
Freyer enters the race with nearly three decades of courtroom experience, including extensive work in criminal law, evidence and trial procedure. He is the only attorney in the three-county region who is Board Certified in Criminal Law. Over the course of his career, Freyer has tried more than 250 felony jury trials — including capital murder, crimes against children, aggravated robbery and narcotics cases — and has resolved tens of thousands of criminal matters across eight Texas counties.
In addition to his prosecutorial work, Freyer has served as a mentor to hundreds of attorneys, assisting in trial preparation, case strategy and courtroom presentation.
Freyer is a graduate of Texas Christian University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history, Spanish and political science in 1992. He went on to complete a summa cum laude master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Florida International University in 1993, followed by a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law in 1996, where he graduated in the top quarter of his class. Freyer is fluent in Spanish, a skill he says helps him better serve the region’s diverse communities.
In a statement following his filing, Freyer said his candidacy represents a commitment to strengthening public trust in the judicial system.
“This filing is not just paperwork — it’s a promise to restore trust in our institutions and our judicial system,” Freyer said. “I am honored to stand with fellow true Republicans in the daily fight for accountability and the Rule of Law that keeps Texas strong.”
Freyer was joined by his wife, Nicole, and their daughter, Melania, during the filing event in Austin.
The campaign has launched a website and social media presence as it continues to build momentum ahead of the upcoming election. Additional events and announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
