On September 22 of last year just after 9:30am several black males entered the First National Bank of Conroe in the Kroger Grocery Store at South Loop 336 and IH-45. One black male confronted the bank manager as the other jumped over the counter. For some reason something spooked them before they got any money and they fled the scene in a blue mini-van. As the bank robbery call was coming into dispatch an off duty Willis Police Officer spotted some black males exit the blue mini-van in the River Pointe area and get into a blue BMW.
That officer started to follow them, not knowing about the robbery almost around the corner. As he followed he relayed information to Conroe police dispatchers who in turn also was putting the information out to Montgomery County Sheriff’s office. A pursuit started and continued down IH-45. As they crossed SH 242 an Oak Ridge patrol unit was passed at well over 100 MPH and attempted to catch up.
Just as Conroe supervisors advised their officers to discontinue the chase in the interest of public safety dispatch took a call that the BMW had “crashed out” just north of Rayford Road.
The first unit on the scene was advised that three to four black males exited the severely damaged vehicle and ran into the woods to the west.
A perimeter was set up with Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Precinct 3 Constables., Oak Ridge Police, Conroe Police and the Woodlands office of the FBI involved.
