CONROE – Despite freezing temperatures, Blue Knights of Texas Chapter XXXIII’s Operation Blue Santa proceeded with volunteers and children eager to see Santa braving the cold on Saturday morning.
The third annual event was held at Incredible Pizza Company of Conroe where children chosen through a cooperative effort with Montgomery County Child Protective Services were treated to a special parade followed by a visit with Blue Santa that included a keepsake photo and gifts from their wish list, then lunch and games, courtesy of Incredible Pizza.
North Montgomery County Fire and Rescue drove Blue Santa to the event on one of their trademark blue fire trucks, which was only one of the fire and law enforcement vehicles that appeared in the parade. The Houston Police Department sent a helicopter to the event and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT vehicle participated and set up a display inside afterward. Grangerland Fire Department, Pct. 4 and Pct. 5 Constable’s Offices, MCSO patrol division, and DWI Tracker also participated in the parade.
The 2009 Blue Santa project was sponsored by Incredible Pizza, Sheriff Tommy Gage, Reguladores Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Constable Gene Deforest, Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden, Michele & Ray Wilkins, Bobby Bowen, Chuck’s Home Repairs. Montgomery Co. Sheriff’s Alumni Assoc., Smart Financial, Paul & Margaret Smith, ACE PR, Inc., Chris & Nancy Carmack, John Lisle, and Ron & Sandra Wilcox.
