Around 5 p.m. Saturday, a fisherman on Lake Conroe called his wife and said the fishing had not been good, but he would try a while longer. He launched his boat at Cagle Boat Ramp on the North End of Lake Conroe.
Around 9:30 p.m., with no word from him, his wife called 911. An immediate search was executed by Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable’s Lake Patrol, Conroe Fire, New Waverly Fire, Texas Game Wardens, North Montgomery Fire, and Montgomery Fire. The last area was known to be north of the FM 1097 bridge but south of FM 1375. This area of the Lake is quite dangerous unless someone knows the area well due to hidden stumps in the water. Crews located the man’s boat near FM 1375. The boat had some damage, his phone was in it, as well as his life vest. However, the boat was in gear leading authorities to believe he was ejected. It was unknown if the damage was from a previous incident or new.
Crews remained in the search area until 3 a.m. Sunday. They returned to the search area at 8 a.m. Sunday and have been searching all day using side scan sonar, drones, and fireboats. According to Pct. 1 Sgt. Higginbotham, the search will continue until dark. Family and friends gathered as the search continued.
