SPLENDORA- Members of the Splendora Fire Department gathered on Thursday to greet the newest addition to the department’s fleet.
SFD Chief Ray Vaden said the new truck would maximize productivity by combining the functions of multiple trucks. The new apparatus will serve as a pumper with rescue tools and equipment to deal with hazardous materials.
The new truck is the first for the department in quite some time, Vaden said. It was a demo truck with a reduced cost of just under $300,000, which saved the department around $50,000.
“Montgomery County ESD 11 is the reason we were able to make this purchase,” he said.
The truck is expected to respond to between 70 and 80 percent of SFD calls, including motor vehicle accidents, car fires and rescues, hazmat cleanup, and more.
