Sheriff Rand Henderson Still Firing Blanks at Retired Texas Ranger Wesley Doolittle

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX- Embattled Sheriff Rand Henderson leveled serious allegations at his political opponent Tuesday but provided zero evidence. While some wrote off the bizarre, vicious attack (via Henderson’s high-dollar campaign consultant) as simple desperation, others suggest something far more sinister – the Henderson Campaign wants Team Doolittle to play defense, so everyone is too distracted to look at Henderson’s questionable Campaign Finance Reports.

Unfortunately for the incumbent Sheriff who failed to get 50 percent of the primary vote, Campaign Finance Reports are public record, as are decisions regarding how taxpayer dollars are spent. While it’s unclear exactly what the term “dark money” meant in Henderson’s latest attack on retired Texas Ranger and Montgomery County native Wesley Doolittle, the term “questionable contributions” is clear, and Henderson’s Campaign Finance Reports show items meeting that definition. There are some very disturbing connections between campaign contributions received by Sheriff Rand Henderson and contracts awarded based on his recommendations to County Commissioners.

One example is Rand Henderson Campaign donor Mark Christensen of Christensen Building Group, who’s been awarded at least two large county contracts under Sheriff Henderson, including the new MCSO District 4 Office in Magnolia (September 8, 2020) and the Sheriff’s Office Shooting Range (August 24, 2021).

Then there’s WellPath, who provides medical services to The Montgomery County Jail, run by Sheriff Ran Henderson. It’s a $6.8 Million contract, and they also donate to Rand Henderson’s campaign. For years, WellPath has been linked to scandals and even criminal charges in unrelated incidents across the United States. Simple Google searches return a plethora of WellPath scandal related articles, including one about a Virginia Sheriff who came under fire for taking campaign donations from WellPath under circumstances eerily reminiscent of Sheriff Henderson’s.

Virginia Sheriff Seeking Re-election Took Campaign Donations From Healthcare Provider For Jail He Oversees – The Appeal

WellPath PAC donated to the Henderson Campaign as follows:

$1000              5-6-2015
$1050              9-20-2017
$2500              11-18-2019

One of the great things about being an American is, of course, transparent elections. That transparency requires candidates to file Campaign Finance Reports. Taxpayers should take a look at where their Sheriff got all of the money to pay for the USPS mailers, mobile phone mass texts/calls, social media ads and the rest of his internet and print presence during the current election. Some of the names are recognizable, some of the older CFRs show folks who now appear on Doolittle’s list. Some of the Sheriff’s contributions are headscratchers. One odd donor is the HDR PAC, based in another state, that often donates to Democrats and Leftist causes. In 2020, the PAC donated FAR more to Democrats than Republicans. These facts are only notable because of the allegations the Sheriff made against his opponent.
