Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez released the following statement Monday evening:
K-9 Ghost was injured while assisting in the pursuit of a wanted offender after the suspect allegedly attempted to drown Ghost. The suspect was arrested and remains in custody.
K-9 Ghost received immediate treatment and has been transported to a veterinary clinic for precautionary purposes. K-9 Ghost is expected to be ok.
Background:
HCSO deputies were in the 14200 block of Lockwood Drive, attempting to locate Bryan Crofton (1-14-04) for active felony warrants.
Crofton was spotted, he crashed his vehicle in a ditch, and fled on foot towards a pond. K-9 Handler, Deputy Almeida and K-9 Ghost pursued Crofton into a wooded pond area. K-9 Ghost successfully bit Crofton, who allegedly attempted to drown K-9 Ghost in his attempt to flee. Deputies entered the water to assist with detaining Crofton.
Crofton was transported to a hospital to receive medical care for the bite injury and K-9 Ghost was transported to a clinic. No injuries to any deputies.
Crofton had open warrants for Injury to a Child and Interfering with 911 Services. New charges will include Evading and Interfering with Service Animal.
