SHOOTING LEAVES 20 SHOT WITH TWO DEAD

About an hour ago Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia held a press conference in the 7300 block on Enchanted Creek in far northwest Harris County.  Just before midnight Saturday Harris County units responded to a shooting call at this location. Reports say more than two dozen were injured. Life Flight and multiple ambulances also responded.

According to Garcia  a mother was giving her 18-year old daughter a birthday party. She hired a DJ and a bouncer to make sure nothing happened. The birthday party was posted on several social media sites which the Sheriff partially blames for the incident.

As the bouncer tried to keep additional people out many cut through a neighbors yard and jumped the fence.

Just before midnight a black male near the DJ fired a handgun in the air inside the house. The Sheriff described it as a celebratory shot in response to some music. At that time another black male near the front door fired what the Sheriff called a responsive shot into the crowd which had grown to almost 100.  The shooting lasted three to five minutes.

From those shots which totaled close to ten including the initial shot 20 people were hit. A 16-year old female died as she arrived at Cy-Fair Hospital, a second male believed to be 18 year old was found dead just down from the location in the street. Both are students at Cypress Springs high School. Two others were flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston. One remains in critical condition, the other stable condition. Five hospitals were utilized for the injured, some arrived by ambulance, others by personal vehicles.

In addition several were injured trying to get out a half open garage door and others jumping from second floor windows.

Garcia warned people not to post parties of such on social media when you don’t know who will be responding.  He did not believe drugs or alcohol was a factor but the suspects may be gang related but refused to speculate on which gang.

No weapons have been recovered and investigators continue to search for a 17 and 22 year old who actually did the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call HCSO Homicide at 713-967-5810 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. He also suggested loading the iWatchHarrisCounty.com. There you can report tips, view crime stats.
