SHOPLIFTER WHO FIRED ON HARRIS COUNTY WALMART SECURITY OFFICER ARRESTED

On January 29, 2016 deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to a weapons disturbance at the Walmart located in the 26700 block of the Northwest Frwy. Upon arrival deputies were advised that 2 males were observed entering the store and began to gather merchandise in preparation to commit theft.

Having noticed that they were being watched the males discarded the gathered items and one of the males unpackaged a single item and concealed it under his clothing, then walked past all points of sale without paying. The store loss prevention officers then confronted the suspect about the theft and the suspect assaulted one of the loss prevention officers.

The suspect then fled and upon realizing that he was being chased, pulled a handgun and fired two shots into the ground to stop the pursuing loss prevention officers.” The suspect then climbed into a vehicle and fled the scene.

Constable Deputies were able to retrieve store security video of the incident to use in their investigation. During their investigation, deputies were able to identify the vehicle that the suspect fled in and its owner.

Constable Investigators presented the complainants a photo array and the suspect, Matthew Jackson, was positively identified as being the male that had stolen the merchandise and then fired shots while being chased.

A warrant was issued for Jackson’s arrest for Aggravated Robbery with a Deadly Weapon out of the 182nd District Court with his bond set at $30,000.00.

On February 8th, 2016, Jackson was arrested in Brazos County and is being returned to Harris County for trial.
