Traffic was backed up all afternoon on Hwy 105 near April Sound after a Waste Management truck driver neglected to lower the forklift on his truck and snagged a Sudden Link telecommunications line, according to officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at Hwy 105 and Marina Drive. The eastbound truck snapped the utility pole, which did not completely break apart but was leaning, leaving wires sagging to the level that only cars could pass beneath them.
Sudden Link sent a bucket truck to lift the line high enough over one lane that all vehicles could pass beneath it. Traffic was able to flow, but reduced to one eastbound and one westbound lane.
DPS issued the driver a citation for an over height vehicle because it reached above the maximum 14 feet.
The Lake Conroe Fire Department stood by in case of injury initially, then remained after power was shut down and assisted with traffic control along with TxDOT.
As of 5:30 p.m., traffic remained snarled on 105 as repairs continued.
