MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX- Randy and Crystal Moore are always among the first to step forward when there’s a need. They’ve volunteered and contributed through the years, too many times to count. They did so out of the kindness of their hearts, and their incredibly strong sense of community. Randy and Crystal never imagined they’d find themselves in need.
Everything can change in the blink of an eye, and on September 22, it happened to the Moore family. Randy and Crystal were working on their deer lease in Nacogdoches when a terrible accident occurred, leaving Randy critically injured. He was operating his tractor when a 12″ tree fell and unexpectedly sprang back, slamming his head against the tractor’s roll bar and pinning him. His face was crushed, with almost every facial bone broken and his sinuses seriously damaged. Crystal ran to him. When she saw him, she thought he was dead, but God wasn’t planning to take Randy home yet.
Amazingly, Randy Moore survived the catastrophic injuries. Unfortunately, the road to recovery is going to be very long and very expensive. Randy is the family’s primary breadwinner. As anyone who’s dealt with traumatic injuries and the hospitalizations, surgeries and requisite follow-up care will attest, Crystal’s fulltime job for the foreseeable future will be Randy’s recovery. These sorts of events have astronomical costs, even with the best insurance. There are a million additional expenses, both large and small, for which no one is ever prepared.
