Sorters Road shut down for 4 hours due to head-on crash

PORTER- A head-on collision in East Montgomery County Thursday night left one driver critically injured and flown to a Houston hospital, and another to an area hospital by ground ambulance. Sorters Road was shut down for four hours.

DPS Trooper Pena said it was about 10:45 p.m. when crews were dispatched to a two-vehicle head-on collision at the intersection of Sorters Road and Summer Hills Blvd. where a Toyota SUV collided with a Chevy Impala.
Pena said his investigation indicated the Impala was southbound on the north side of the road, not passing when it struck the Toyota.

The unidentified driver of the Impala sustained major injuries, with all four limbs broken and other possible injuries and was flown by Life Flight medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

The driver of the Toyota was taken by ground ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Damage to the SUV was mild compared to the car, which looked as though it had been crushed. Pena said the car was so “mangled” that it took rescue crews 30 minutes to extricate the driver.

The vehicle was not registered, Pena said.
