PRESS RELEASE
ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE SHENANDOAH POLICE DEPARTMENT
On January 16, 2008 the Shenandoah Police Department completed a two day review by Assessors from the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) Law Enforcement Recognition Program. The program, which began in 2007, evaluates a Police Department’s compliance with over 150 Best Business Practices for Texas Law Enforcement. These Best Practices were carefully developed by Texas Law Enforcement professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service and the protection of individual’s rights. These Best Practices cover all aspects of Texas law enforcement including use of force, search and seizure, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and all agency operations.
This voluntary process required the Shenandoah Police Department to conduct a critical self-review of the agency’s policies, procedures, facilities and operations. Beginning in May of 2007, the department began the lengthy process to become a “Recognized” Law Enforcement Agency by preparing proofs of compliance for each of the Texas Law Enforcement Best Business Practices. Upon completion of the internal review, an outside audit was requested. The on-site review was conducted by trained Police Chiefs from other areas of our state. The result of this review, which is expected to be very favorable, will be sent to the Texas Police Chiefs Association’s Recognition Committee for final analysis and decision to award “Recognized” status.
In April, at the annual Texas Police Chief’s Association Conference to be held in The Woodlands, the Shenandoah Police Department hopes to become only the 12th TPCA Recognized Law Enforcement Agency and the 1st Municipal Law Enforcement Agency in Texas to be both CALEA Accredited and TPCA Recognized.
Chief of Police John R. Chancellor and Lieutenant Bryan Carlisle would like to extend their appreciation to Compliance Coordinator Jennifer A. Calvert for her tireless and outstanding work on this project and to all of the men and women of the Shenandoah Police Department whose dedication and professionalism continue to elevate the level of unsurpassed service provided to both the residents of our city and all of our daily visitors.
