“Speeding Leads to Drug Charges in Cleveland”

On Saturday, August 25th, 2018 Officer Charles Ortega was conducting traffic enforcement on US 59 (South Bound Lane) near SH 105 when he observed a 2014 four-door Lincoln traveling 114mph in a 65 mph zone.

Officer Ortega activated his emergency equipment and conducted a traffic stop for the speeding violation. While meeting with the two occupants who were traveling from Tennessee to Houston, Officer Ortega discovered that neither the driver nor the passenger had a valid driver’s license. It was also found the vehicle did not have valid insurance and an open container of alcohol was inside the vehicle.

Officer Ortega conducted a further investigation which led to the discovery of Marijuana, Heroin, Ecstasy and 2 pistols, one of which was stolen. Also located was 4,406.00 in cash was seized due to its connection to criminal activity.

During the book-in process at the Cleveland Police Department, Officer Ortega discovered that the passenger had drugs hidden on his person.

The driver was identified as Casey Jackson, age 52 from Nashville, Tennessee was charged with “Theft of a Firearm (State Jail Felony) (12,000.00 Bond)” “Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (3Rd Degree Felony) (12,000.00 Bond)”.

The passenger was identified as Sean Michael Carr, age 30 from Nashville, Tennessee was charged with “Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (3rd Degree Felony) (10,000.00 Bond)” “Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility (3rd Degree Felony) (10,000.00 Bond)” “Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 2 (1st Degree Felony) (25,000.00 Bond)”.

Municipal Judge Bob Steely assessed the defendant’s bonds.
