Robert Wayne Burks, 54 of Shepherd had just left his sisters house in the Grangerland area just after 4:00 p.m. and was eastbound on FM 2090 in his Ford F-150 pickup. As he approached Daw Collins/Huff Road he crossed the westbound lanes for unknown reasons and crashed into a large pine tree. Burks was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed instantly. Splendora Fire Department had to cut the passenger doors away to access Burks.
FM2090 was closed for several hours as DPS conducted their investigation. They believe alcohol was a factor s several beer cans and an open Jack Daniels bottle was found in the vehicle. However, the final determination will be after the autopsy. Judge James Metts ordered Cashner Funeral Directors to transport Burks to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for that autopsy.
