SPLENDORA FIRE HAD POTENTIAL TO BE MAJOR WILDFIRE

Just before 10:00am Sunday morning Splendora received a call of woods on fire just west of Splendora High School on FM 2090. As the first unit arrived he was guided back almost two miles into the woods near several deer camps. There fire was already burning out of control and spreading deeper into the woods.

The Texas Forest Service, Cleveland, Caney Creek, Cut and Shoot and New Caney Fire Departments were called to assist. The winds had just started to pick up out of the north and humidity had just dropped to 33% when the departments tackled the fire. Within an hour they were able to contain and extinguish the fire. The Texas Forest Service was also cancelled.

The wooded area is part of over one-thousand acres owned by a Woodlands resident and has several deer camps throughout.
