Just after 4 pm Friday, a Splendora Police Interdiction Unit attempted to stop a Toyota 4-Runner for speeding. As he activated his emergency lights the vehicle accelerated to over 120 MPH. That was the start of a long pursuit. The pursuit continued north into Cleveland where they exited Washington and ran through Cleveland at a high rate of speed again entering I-69 just north of FM 2025 on North Washington. Cleveland Police assisted. The chase continued north as the suspects passed 18-wheelers on the shoulder. They exited Shepherd and ran north on Loop 424 through Shepherd to FM 223 where they turned east and started throwing drugs out of the vehicle, They continued under the freeway and continued east. Running around curves and head-on at vehicles he continued to FM 787. At FM 787 the driver was nearly t-boned by a vehicle before he turned east on FM 787 almost wrecking in the ditch. Traveling east they continued dumping bags of drugs out the window. As they crossed the Trinity River Bridge the driver clipped the bridge railing and ran off the road crashing down the embankment. The driver surrendered immediately. The passenger fled on foot but after about a 400-yard foot chase was taken into custody. Officers were able to recover several bags of drugs and a good samaritan in Shepherd delivered one of the bags to the Shepherd Police Department. Officers recovered 3 kilos of meth, a half-kilo of cocaine, 85 grams of K@, 36 ounces of marijuana, and 15 kilos of fentanyl pills which totaled 5000 hits. Officers are still working to identify the passenger. However, the driver, identified as Zacharias Carpenter, was identified as a felon who had been convicted in several states including Illinois and Arkansas. In June of 2001, he was convicted in Will County Illinois of Aggravated Robbery. It was also found that just ten days ago he was stopped by Splendora Police in a different vehicle and was arrested for possession of marijuana and felon in possession of a firearm. At that time he gave the jail an address of 2700 Jackson in Chicago Heights, Illinois. However, just a few days later he posted a $50,000 bond and at that time gave his address as 701 Greenmont Drive in Little Rock, Arkansas. He ios being charged with 4 counts of manufacture and delivery and evading arrest with a motor vehicle, he has been denied a bond. The vehicle that was pursued today was a rental vehicle with Arkansas plates. The passenger has been identified as Terry Lee Washington Jr. 33, of Little Rock Arkansas. He is being charged with evading arrest and four counts of manufacture and delivery. His bond has been set at $500,000. Splendora Police would like to thank Cleveland Police, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Liberty County Precinct 5 Constables Office, and San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.

15 kilos of fentanyl pills which totaled 5000 hits.
That’s over 30 pounds of fentanyl. How many people would that kill? This scum need to go down for attempted murder, too, and along with the other charges, sentenced so they never breathe free air again.
Just have to say- out of all the law enforcement agencies in the area, Splendora PD seems to be doing a stellar job at keeping these thugs off the street. There is bust after bust in their jurisdiction.
As a neighboring resident, I will extend my thanks and appreciation to all of the Splendora officers.
