SPLENDORA HOME DEMOLISHED

For the third time this week Montgomery County Health Department demolished another home. This home located on Carol Drive just east of the Splendora city limits had been abandoned for quite some time said a neighbor. The roof was collapsing, the electrical panel had been stripped of copper. Just like Wednesdays mobile home that was demolished in Emerson Estates raccoons had taken up nesting inside. Windows were broken and black mold was seen on many of the walls.

This is the third abandoned home this week that has been cleared. Rick Jordan with the Montgomery County Health Department Environmental Division said he has a stack on his desk of homes that need to be looked at but the federal government only grants $100,000 a year. Each property costs approximately $5000 to clear off the property. The crews clear the entire property of trash, structures and debris leaving only the trees.

Monday a Magnolia property was cleared. Once the property is cleared a lien is placed on it to insure the property isn’t sold without the demolition costs being reimbursed to the fund. Some of these homes eventually end up at tax sales when county and school taxes are unpaid.

Evidence of drinking, smoking and drugs were evident throughout the Carol Road location today.

Neighbors, just like the other locations said it is a haven for the kids to hang out and get in trouble or injured.
