SPLENDORA HOME DESTROYED BY FIRE

Just after 2 p.m. Friday afternoon Splendora Fire Department was dispatched to a mobile home fire on Presswood Drive near Ruby in Splendora. When they arrived they had heavy fire coming from the front and tear of the double wide mobile home.

As crews started working on the fire Porter, Caney Creek and New Caney Fire Department also arrived to assist since there were no fire hydrants, several tankers were needed. The fire was brought under control destroying the inside of the home.

As New Caney firefighters were searching for any possible victims they found a mix breed Chow inside. The dog was  immediately taken out and  after determining it still had a heart beat, firefighters immediately started life saving measures including oxygen. The dog did not survive, it is believed the smoke and heat complicated matters in attempting to save him.

New Caney firefighters then took it upon themselves to bury the dog.

The home owner was not home at the time of the fire. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
