It seems like daily Splendora Police are posting another traffic stop which turned into a drug bust, warrant arrest, or impaired driver. They are a small department but are very active. Chief Wieghat demands this from his officers and the officers have no problem tackling the job. There have been large drug seizures and also large seizures of cash from drug runners who have been convicted. This week the numbers were issued for 2022. For an area as small as it is the officers did a fantastic job.

The last week of January was active for the Splendora Police Department UAS Division. Over the course of three days, two separate incidents of evading occurred. The UAS Division Pilots were instrumental in the successful apprehension of both suspects. During the first incident, the subject fled on foot from the scene of a traffic stop into a thick wooded area along Highway 59. Ground units were able to set a perimeter and the UAS Division was contacted. The UAS Pilot was able to locate the individual using the onboard Thermal sensors, and directed the K9 team to the suspect where he was taken into custody. In the second incident the suspect was driving a stolen vehicle and fled from the officer, the individual then exited the vehicle and fled into the woods. The UAS pilot again responded to the area and was able to locate the subject walking through the wooded area, and eventually out to the Southbound service road. Ground units were directed by the UAS pilot to the location and that subject was also taken into custody. The UAS Division operates across a vast mission set to include Search and Rescue, Accident Reconstruction, City Infrastructure Inspections, disaster response, and assisting in the location and apprehension of suspects. The UAS Division recently was granted their BVLOS ( Beyond Visual Line of Sight ) Waiver from the FAA. This makes the Department just the third in the State to receive this waiver and the first to receive it under the new FAA guidelines. This waiver is instrumental in the launch of the Divisions DFR ( Drone as a First Responder ) program. The Division started their on-boarding today with Paladin and by doing so are the second Department in the Region to be operational with a DFR program to enhance public safety to our citizen
Now into February and they still have not slowed down.
