Stand Off Tragically Ends In Suicide

An approximate six hours stand-off while Liberty County Sheriff’s negotiators and Texas Ranger negotiators attempted to talk a Harris County Constable Pct. 1 Sergeant out of taking his own life, ended tragically when the man shot himself to death in his truck parked on the Hwy. 787 bridge in north Liberty County at approximately 2:30 pm this evening.

At 8:am this morning a call was made to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office from Pct. 1 in Harris County advising that a third party had called them and advised that one of their personnel was threatening suicide. It was later the Sergeant’s truck stopped on the Hwy. 787 bridge over the Trinity River while numerous law enforcement agencies responded and negotiations began in an attempt to “talk down” the suicidal intentions of the Sergeant.

Negotiations continued throughout the day but at approximately 2:30 pm the situation, sadly, ended with the Sergeant taking his own life. It is known the Sergeant was undergoing a pending investigation by Harris County Constables Pct. 1 office but details are not available at this time.

Liberty County Sheriff’s Incident Commander, Captain Billy Knox, advised that although many law enforcement agencies were involved, the lead agency will be the Texas Rangers as the investigations continue. Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Judge Cody Parrish conducted the inquest and ordered an autopsy.
