STATEMENT BY DPS DIRECTOR MCCRAW ON 9/11 ANNIVERSARY

AUSTIN – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Director Steven McCraw today issued the following statement regarding the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks:

“On the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, we as a nation honor the nearly 3,000 Americans whose lives were lost in that senseless tragedy, and we continue to keep their families in our thoughts and prayers. We also remember the selfless heroes – the first responders, colleagues and everyday citizens – who risked their lives that day by rushing toward danger to aid others. And we also recognize the courageous members of the greatest fighting force in the world, the U.S. Military, who continue to stand strong across the globe to protect our freedoms at home.”

“This anniversary also serves as a reminder that we must always remain vigilant. In Texas, we face the full spectrum of natural and manmade threats, and our law enforcement partners rely on an arsenal of tools to help ensure public safety and homeland security. Texans can assist in that effort by merely reporting any suspicious or criminal activities they might witness; ultimately, that simple act could help save a life.”

Preparations for terrorist attacks are often seen but rarely reported. Texans who see something unusual are urged to speak up. When in doubt, report suspicious activity to a local law enforcement agency (by calling 9-1-1) or through iWATCH, which is a DPS website where citizen-sourced information is collected in an effort to help thwart illegal and terroristic endeavors. For more information on the iWATCH program or to submit a report, visit www.iwatchtx.org.
