Strange South County Pursuit & Arrest May Solve Multiple Crimes

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX- Shenandoah Police on patrol Friday evening spotted a vehicle reported stolen out of Austin County a few days earlier. Officers initiated a traffic stop, but they say the suspect decided to make a run for it, and a pursuit began.

Unfortunately for the suspect, her alleged getaway attempt had more than one glaring problem. First, and foremost, the stolen vehicle was an extra-large mini-bus style van that belongs to a private Christian school in Bellville, and the school’s name is on the sides and rear of the enormous van. Being huge and white made it easy to see, even at a distance in the dark, so it wasn’t going to blend in or be easily ditched without anyone noticing. The van probably also wasn’t built for a fast takeoff, tight cornering, or any of the other features normally associated with a getaway vehicle. To be fair, it would hold A LOT of “loot”, but that’s beside the point.

The ambitious alleged evading attempt was short-lived, Shenandoah Police say the suspect headed north and finally surrendered after turning into a Conroe apartment complex off of I-45, where she ran into a dead-end. She was transported and booked into the Montgomery County Jail in Conroe.

Akiya Micole McCracken, 20, of Houston is charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and Evading Arrest / Detention w/ Vehicle. Both charges are state jail felonies. Public records show McCracken was already on probation in Harris County for an assault.

McCracken may also face more charges, in yet another county. The San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the stolen van is believed to be the vehicle sought in connection with burglaries at the Countyline Grocery Store on Hwy 150 and at a restaurant in the Shepherd area. The alleged crimes were mentioned in the Faith Academy of Bellville’s Facebook and Instagram posts about the missing vehicle. With the alleged violation of McCracken’s probation in Harris County, Montgomery County will be one of at least three where she’ll face new charges.

Public records indicate the 20-year-old has only been prosecuted in Harris County, until now, so she may be in for a rude awakening…
