A little after 1 a.m. a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy Nick Zavorski, was southbound on FM149 at Adams which is approximately 1/4 mile north of SH249. As he approached he spotted an AT+T cable hanging down from the pole and three suspects running. As other deputies arrived they found one suspect in the woods. They believe there are two or three more suspects.
Upon further investigation the found a barbed wire fence had been cut at a cell phone tower site an Adams Lane which was behind the location of the downed cable. Just down from the cut they discovered a Chevrolet pickup which they say belongs to one of the thieves.
The truck was taken to the sheriff’s office lab for processing. AT+T was notified and responded to the scene. They advise this cable covers a large area and as many as 1000 or more customers. It is the third time in as many weeks it has been cut and officials feel it is the same group responsible.
The sheriff’s office also recovered climbing equipment for the poles and several fiberglasses handled bolt/cable cutters. The suspect Byron Wayne Powell age 26, was transported to the Montgomery County Jail.
