According to the fire department, the suspect stole a black Infinity in the Heights area, then drove the car to the Fire Station 17 with a flat tire around 1 p.m.

Officials said one of the station’s bay doors was open as a firefighter asked the suspect if he needed help. The suspect reportedly jumped into the ambulance and sped off. One of the commanders at the station tried to follow the suspect but lost him.

During the search, HPD officers were led to a warehouse but could not locate the stolen emergency vehicle.

Around 3 p.m. a chase began after the ambulance was spotted in southwest Houston. The chase ended after the ambulance caught a flat tire, forcing the suspect to pull over at Rice Boulevard and Greenbriar Drive.

The suspect was taken into custody and the scene was secured.
