According to the Houston Police Department, 33-year-old Jeffrey Conlin was hospitalized at Memorial Hermann in the Medical Center after he had shot himself at the end of Monday’s high-speed chase.
Investigators said Conlin shot at police officers as he led them on a chase in a stolen U-Haul van. He then carjacked a woman at gunpoint.
As HPD Officer Richard Martin was putting down spike strips in an effort to stop Conlin, police say the suspect intentionally ran over the four-year veteran of the Houston Police Department.
Martin leaves behind two children, a 22-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son.
His funeral has been set for Friday.
Had Conlin survived his injuries, he would have faced capital murder charges.
